5 STAND OUT MOMENTS FROM THE HOUSE HEARING WITH FORMAL TWITTER EXECUTIVES

The new, Republican-controlled House of Representatives held its first major hearing, dragging three former Twitter executives before the Oversight Committee to testify about their decision to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story.

TLDR: The executives admitted that their decision was wrong, but rejected the idea that it was politically motivated.

Days before the 2020 Presidential election, Twitter censored a story from the New York Post, alleging corruption by Joe Biden, based on e-mails and records found on Hunter Biden’s laptop, which he had obtained at a computer repair shop.

1 of every 6 Biden voters (17%) says they would have changed their vote if they had known about the Hunter laptop story. Just a small fraction of that percentage would have swung the election toward Trump.

The details: The former Twitter execs testifying were:

Yoel Roth: former Global Head of Trust and Safety

James Baker: former Deputy General Counsel (also former FBI)

Vijaya Gadde:t former Chief Legal Officer

…all three former Twitter executives were fired by Elon Musk after he purchased the social media giant.

Some of the stand-out moments of the day include:

1️⃣ Twitter ‘made a mistake’: During the hearing, Yoel Roth admitted to the House committee: “Twitter noticed activity related to the laptop that at first glance bore a lot of similarities to the 2016 Russian hack and leak operation targeting the DNC. We had to decide what to do. And in that moment with limited information, Twitter made a mistake.”

2️⃣ Jim Jordan grills the FBI’s man inside Twitter: Thanks to the Twitter Files, internal documents released by Elon Musk, it’s pretty clear that the FBI knew the Hunter laptop was real, but colluded with Twitter to suppress it anyway. Their point man inside Twitter was James Baker, who was at one point a member of the FBI.

Rep. Jordan: “You said you didn’t talk to the FBI that day. Did you talk to the FBI about the Hunter Biden laptop story than prior to that day or after that day?”

James Baker: “I’m trying to make sure I can answer this question, consistent with the restrictions I talked about…”

Rep. Jordan: “Simple question. Did you talk to the FBI about the Hunter Biden story?”

James Baker: “To the best of my recollection, I did not talk to the FBI about the Hunter Biden story before that day.

Rep. Jordan: “Did you talk to him after?”

James Baker: “I don’t recall.”

…this exchange is illustrative of the weasel-minded people we’re dealing with. Baker is very precise with his words, keeping himself above scrutiny by including caveats like “to the best of my recollection.”

3️⃣ Rep, Nancy Mace takes Vijaya Gadde to the woodshed: In a tense exchange, Rep. Nancy Mace excoriated Ms. Gadde over her flagrant censorship of covid medical information:

Rep. Mace: “Where did you go to medical school?”

Gadde: “I did not go to medical school.”

Rep. Mace: “I’m sorry?”

Gadde: “I did not go to medical school.”

Rep. Mace: “That’s what I thought. Why do you think you or anyone else at Twitter had the medical expertise to censor a doctor’s expert opinion?”

Gadde: “Our policies regarding covid were designed to protect…”

Rep. Mace: “You guys censored Harvard-educated doctors, Stanford-educated doctors, doctors that are educated in the best places in the world and you silenced those voices.”

4️⃣ AOC tries to downplay: “We’re talking about Hunter Biden’s half-fake laptop story…This is an embarrassment.”

It is of course, not half-fake. Several left-wing news outlets have even verified its authenticity.

5️⃣ Arrests are coming: Rep. Clay Higgins explained that these hearings are only the first pitch in a nine-inning process that he believes will result in arrests. He told the panel of ex-Twitter executives:

“You, ladies and gentlemen, interfered with the United States of America 2020 presidential election, knowingly and willingly. That’s the bad news, it’s gonna get worse because this is the investigation part. Later comes the arrest part. Your attorneys are familiar with that.”
