A Peace Offer Deserves a Test, Not Blind Trust

Iran Put a Deal on the Table. That Does Not Mean America Has to Trust It.

Iran presented Washington with a proposal that it said could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore normal maritime passage if specified conditions were met.

Trump rejected the initial proposal, but mediation continued and U.S. feedback was subsequently delivered to Tehran.

The diplomatic door therefore did not disappear when the first proposal was rejected.

The real question is whether either side can produce conditions that are enforceable, verifiable and compatible with American security interests.

Peace Through Strength Requires Verification

Iran should never possess a nuclear weapon.

The United States should defend its troops, protect freedom of navigation and prevent Tehran from using the Strait of Hormuz as leverage over the global economy.

That does not mean every Iranian proposal should be accepted.

It also does not mean every proposal should be rejected merely because Iran made it.

Test it.

Verify it.

Demand enforceable conditions.

If Iran is prepared to reopen Hormuz, reduce hostilities and enter serious negotiations, Washington should determine whether those commitments can be verified before choosing additional military escalation.

Peace through strength works when strength produces a better peace.

Strength without an achievable objective can become an open-ended commitment of American lives, weapons and money.

Congress belongs in that conversation too.

The Constitution deliberately divides war powers between branches of government.

Power changes hands.

The Constitution has to survive whoever is holding it.

Trust Nothing. Verify Everything. Then Decide.

Diplomacy is not trust.

It is verification backed by leverage.

If Iran offers a path that protects shipping, limits nuclear risk and reduces danger to American forces, test every provision and enforce every condition.

If the offer fails, America loses nothing by proving why.

Peace through strength should never mean peace through wishful thinking.

But it should not mean war without an exit either.
