Now Taking Bets Twitter Vs Elon as Twitter Files Suit Against Elon Musk
The $44 billion deal was terminated by Musk, who claims the social media company was not honest in its disclosures about bot and spam accounts. His public statements on the platform questioned whether the percentage of bot accounts was substantially higher than the 5% estimate given by Twitter in its public filings.
The Delaware Chancery Court will determine whether the original agreement will be specifically enforced — i.e., whether Musk will be required to go through with the purchase or released from the deal (perhaps with the negotiated $1 billion “breakup fee”). Alternatively, the two parties could strike a revised deal, presumably for a lower price, or the Court could require Musk to pay even more than the $1 billion in damages.
