SAN FRANCISCO IS CLOSER TO GIVING OUT $5 MILLION DOLLAR REPARATIONS TO BLACK RESIDENTS
San Francisco accepts draft reparations plan with $5 million to black residents
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors moved to accept a draft proposal on reparations that would hand out $5 million per eligible black resident.
Important context: This move does not enact the reparations proposal, it only accepts the draft.
A final decision isn’t due until June 2023.
The draft proposal that was just accepted includes the following provisions:
$5 million one-time payment to eligible African American residents
$97,000 annual income for low-income African American households for the next 250 years
converting public housing units into condos that can be bought for $1
The requirements for receiving these reparations are meeting two of the following:
being the descendant of someone who was enslaved before 1865
having been incarcerated in the “failed War on Drugs”, or the descendant of someone who was
being displaced by the city’s 1954-1973 urban renewal project or one of their descendants
Here’s the kicker: The proposal would cost non-Black families in the city, who never owned slaves, at least $600,000 each.
Equity.
Remember… San Francisco never had slavery.
