Twitter CEO Elon Musk authorized the second batch of internal company records, which confirm that despite previous denials, the tech giant did use shadowbanning to silence prominent conservatives without users’ knowledge.

Back up: This builds on last week’s revelations from ‘The Twitter Files’ that found that Twitter regularly took censorship requests [including from the Biden campaign] that disproportionately targeted conservatives. It also revealed the company went out of its way to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story.

The Twitter Files 2.0 details:

This latest release was released through former New York Times journalist Bari Weiss, who revealed that:

“teams of Twitter employees build blacklists, prevent disfavored tweets from trending, and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or even trending topics—all in secret, without informing users.”

Notable conservatives that Weiss points to were Dan Bongino, Charlie Kirk, and LibsOfTikTok.

Bongino was placed on a “Search Blacklist”

Kirk was placed on “Do Not Amplify”

LibsOfTikTok was put on a “Trends Blacklist”

Shadowbanning by another name: Twitter executives previously denied the company shadow bans users. Weiss points out that in 2018 top Twitter executives said “We do not shadow ban… And we certainly don’t shadowban based on political viewpoints or ideology.'”

But what you and I refer to as “shadowbanning” – Twitter executives refer to as “visibility filtering.”

Twitter used visibility filtering “to block searches of individual users; to limit the scope of a particular tweet’s discoverability; to block select users’ posts from ever appearing on the “trending” page, and from inclusion in hashtag searches.”
