Pre-K teacher attacks idea of ‘childhood innocence,’ claims toddlers not too young for ‘sexuality’ discussion
William ‘Willy’ Villalpando called the idea of ‘childhood innocence’ a ‘mythology’
Parents are outraged after a California pre-kindergarten teacher has been exposed repeatedly advocating for an end to “childhood innocence” and thinks toddlers should have discussions on “sexuality.”
Who is William Villalpando? He is both a professor of childhood development at Santa Ana College and a pre-k teacher in the Rialto Unified School District [at least until the 2021-2022 school year].
Here’s what this creep advocates for…
Ending “childhood innocence”: In a 2020 Instagram post, he claimed that “childhood innocence” is a “mythology”:
“There is a common mythology that children live in this world of pure innocence, and that by introducing or exposing them to the real-world adults are somehow shattering this illusion for them. Therefore, there is a banning of topics and issues that children should not be exposed to, as if they are not experiencing them already.”
Exposing toddlers to “sexuality”: In another post, Villalpando attacked the idea that children should be shielded from sexuality in the classroom, claiming that “such a view is a very white, Christian, upper-class, cis-gendered, and hetero-centric.”
Talking about ‘queerness’ with toddlers: In a post from 2021 he said: “Not talking about Queerness in the Classroom, is NOT Letting Children be Children. It’s Telling Those people They Do Not Deserve to Exist. Kids are never too young.”
Confusing kids on gender: In another post, he identified that: “Children who are exposed to environments with more fluid understandings of gender, are more likely to understand that gender is fluid.”
On superseding parent’s role: “Parents haven’t already had conversations about these things with their kids, that kids don’t know, that they might be intersex, that they might be agender… non-binary.”
Santa Ana College, where Villalpado works, responded to the report by saying they do “not condone any form of attack on ‘childhood innocence.”
They added:
“Our RSCCD community college courses in Child Development and Education Studies do not address nor teach gender studies.”
With all that’s going on in the news, I almost didn’t share this article, because ultimately this creep is just one person. But I think it’s worth reminding ourselves that predators like this are out there with close access to young children. So we need to shine a expose them when we see them, or else it’s easier for them to multiply.
