Stepping up from his position as the House Minority Whip, Tom Emmer was poised to ascend. However, his track record raised eyebrows:
– During the 2022 midterms, Emmer, at the helm of the NRCC, halted funds to MAGA candidates.

Back to the drawing board, House GOP held additional closed-door votes, ultimately nominating Rep. Mike Johnson. Trump’s favored defense team member during both impeachments, Johnson aligns with MAGA values, voting against certifying the 2020 election and opposing the recent temporary funding bill.
The Right Candidate at the Right Time:
Though not a Jim Jordan, Johnson’s nomination allows McCarthy and RINOs to claim prevention of a MAGA candidate, while the MAGA base finds alignment with him 99% of the time. The full House vote looms today — a test of whether Johnson can secure the requisite 217 votes.
