The Election Integrity Fight Just Got Real

Federal prosecutors have announced criminal charges against 10 people accused of illegally registering or voting in North Carolina elections despite not being United States citizens.

The announcement comes as North Carolina voters head to the polls for a consequential midterm election, bringing renewed attention to voter eligibility, citizenship verification, and election security.

President Donald Trump’s administration has made investigating noncitizen voting a priority. These indictments demonstrate that federal authorities have identified specific cases they believe warrant prosecution.

But there is an important distinction: Criminal charges are not convictions, and identifying individual cases does not establish widespread election fraud. Justice Department

Ten Indictments. Years of Alleged Illegal Voting.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced that a federal grand jury indicted 10 individuals accused of falsely claiming American citizenship to register or vote.

Nine defendants are lawful permanent residents, while one is accused of living in the United States without legal authorization.

All 10 face charges involving false claims of citizenship. Nine also face charges of voting by a noncitizen.

Federal prosecutors allege that several defendants participated in multiple elections over several years, with some voting histories dating back decades.

The felony charge of falsely claiming citizenship to vote carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years.

Some defendants have questioned the allegations. One Canadian-born defendant told WRAL that he believed he was an American citizen because he had been adopted by an American family.

That claim will have to be evaluated through the legal process.

No court has determined that these 10 defendants are guilty. Prosecutors have also not established that the alleged votes changed the outcome of any election. Justice Department

Meanwhile, the North Carolina State Board of Elections has identified another 1,392 registered voters whose citizenship status requires further verification.

Those individuals were flagged through the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements database, commonly called SAVE.

The number was reduced from approximately 1,600 after additional checks against state and federal records.

But being flagged does not establish that someone is a noncitizen.

State officials acknowledge that citizenship records can be incomplete or outdated, particularly for naturalized Americans.

The elections board has confirmed that receiving a verification letter does not automatically cancel someone’s registration or prevent an otherwise eligible voter from voting.

Any removal proceedings must follow applicable laws and due process protections.

The outstanding citizenship reviews should not be confused with the 10 criminal indictments. NCSBE

One Illegal Vote Is Too Many. One Wrongful Removal Is Too Many.

The Go Right with Peter Boykin Perspective

First of all, I support President Donald Trump. But I am here to deliver the news, not simply tell people what they want to hear.

And I believe his administration deserves credit for investigating legitimate allegations of election fraud.

American elections belong to American citizens.

That should not be controversial.

If someone knowingly lies about citizenship to register or vote, that person should face the consequences established by law.

But here is where being a Constitutionalist for Liberty matters.

We must protect election integrity without abandoning due process.

An indictment is an accusation. A database flag is not proof of wrongdoing.

If investigators have evidence, present it in court. If someone violated election law, prosecute the case.

But if an American citizen is incorrectly identified as ineligible because of outdated government records, that person’s constitutional rights must also be protected.

We cannot demand accurate voter rolls while ignoring the possibility of government mistakes.

I support voter identification, citizenship verification, and serious penalties for deliberate election fraud.

I also support transparent procedures, accurate records, and meaningful opportunities for citizens to correct errors.

Those positions are not contradictory.

North Carolina should investigate every credible allegation of illegal voting. It should also make certain that legitimate voters are not denied their rights because a government database got something wrong.

Election security is not about helping Republicans or Democrats win. It is about making certain that lawful votes count and unlawful votes do not.

That is the constitutional standard I expect from every administration.

Secure the Vote. Protect the Voter.

The federal indictments represent a significant election enforcement development in North Carolina.

They also raise questions about how allegedly ineligible registrations remained active across multiple election cycles.

The next developments will determine whether prosecutors can prove their allegations, whether additional investigations produce charges, and how the state resolves outstanding citizenship-verification questions.

There is no verified evidence from these indictments alone of a coordinated effort to manipulate North Carolina’s election results.

But confirmed individual violations, when established in court, still deserve accountability.

Investigate fraud. Verify citizenship. Protect due process. Count every lawful vote.

Because election integrity and constitutional liberty should never be competing priorities.

We don’t just go right. We go constitutionally right.

That’s how we #GoRight.

Federal prosecutors have charged 10 people with allegedly violating citizenship and voting laws in North Carolina, while state election officials review another 1,392 registrations flagged for possible citizenship discrepancies.
