ANOTHER KANGAROO COURT INVESTIGATION OF TRUMP
The foreperson of the grand jury investigating Donald Trump in Georgia went on an unhinged media tour this week, teasing indictments against the former president and his associates. However, her TV appearances may have jeopardized the entire case.
Important caveat: This grand jury does not have the power to bring indictments. It can only investigate and make recommendations.
In May of 2022, Atlanta’s radical District Attorney Fani Willis [whose campaign was financed by George Soros] empaneled a special grand jury to investigate allegations that Trump and other Republicans tried to influence the 2020 election in Georgia because of their efforts to prove there was voter fraud. [Uh, remember the suitcases of ballots?]
The details: Emily Kohrs, the 30-year-old foreperson, made several cable news appearances, including CNN and MSNBC, where she gleefully smirked, joked, and made wacky facial expressions while describing her experience. She also spoke to the NY Times and Associated Press.
Kohrs teased “It’s not a short list” when asked how many indictments the jury recommended.
She told CNN: “There may be some names on that list that you wouldn’t expect. But the big name that everyone keeps asking me about [Trump] — I don’t think you will be shocked.”
What is a foreperson? This person is basically the leader of the jury. It’s their duty to preside and see that discussion during deliberations is carried on in a free and orderly manner.
Trump responded on Truth Social, saying:
“This Georgia case is ridiculous… Now you have an extremely energetic young woman, the (get this!) “foreperson” of the Racist D.A.’s Special Grand Jury, going around and doing a Media Tour revealing, incredibly, the Grand Jury’s inner workings & thoughts. This is not JUSTICE, this is an illegal Kangaroo Court.”
She may have jeopardized the grand jury’s work: Even CNN’s senior legal analyst, Elie Honig told Anderson Cooper it was a “prosecutor’s nightmare” and said:
“Mark my words, Donald Trump’s team is going to make a motion, if there’s an indictment, to dismiss that indictment based on grand jury impropriety.”
“She’s not supposed to be talking about anything, really. But she’s really not supposed to be talking about the deliberations.”
“I think she’s potentially crossing a line here. It’s gonna be a real problem for prosecutors.”
In our legal system, we are supposed to be comforted by the idea of being judged by a jury of our peers. But what happens when the jury pool is tainted with unhinged, clearly biased people like Emily Kohrs?
