Once, arguments between Pharisees and the first Christians were intra-Jewish debates. Over time, those disagreements hardened into caricatures, persecution, and theological attacks directed at Jews. Today, a single Jerusalem Post headline, “Is God an Antisemite?”, sparked a firestorm that shows how fragile the language of faith remains when it intersects with identity, politics, and national interest. Respecting Faith While Demanding Accountability
Every American has the right to their religion, conscience, and belief. That is foundational to our constitutional republic. But respecting faith does not mean treating governments, intelligence services, or religious institutions as immune from questioning. All too often, criticism of Israeli policy or its influence in Washington is instantly smeared as antisemitism. The same standard should apply evenly: if we can criticize evangelical political overreach or Muslim extremism, we should be able to scrutinize Jewish leadership or the State of Israel when their actions conflict with American interests. Faith is sacred, and political institutions must still answer to the principles of accountability.
The History: From Intra-Jewish Conflict to Christian Anti-Judaism
Christian anti-Judaism has deep historical roots. Early church polemics morphed into centuries of discrimination, violence, and systemic oppression of Jews. In the Gospel narratives, corrupt Jewish leaders in Jerusalem conspired with Roman authority to execute Jesus, a symbolic warning that when faith leaders sell out truth for power, justice is crucified. This is not a condemnation of all Jews then or now, but a recognition of how theological narratives can be weaponized.
Scholars trace how early Christian thought redefined Jewish identity. Paul’s writings, for instance, spoke of Christians as the “true Israel,” a theological move that delegitimized Jewish covenantal claims. Boteach later asserted, “No, God is not an antisemite,” arguing instead that Jewish suffering raises theological questions. Legitimate Scrutiny vs. Collective Blame
Americans have every right to ask whether foreign nations, including Israel, exert undue influence on U.S. institutions. When China buys farmland or funnels money into our universities, we raise alarms. When Russia meddles in elections, we demand answers. Why should Israel be exempt from scrutiny of its lobbying or intelligence operations? That is not antisemitism, it is patriotism.
The problem arises when critics blur distinctions between a government and its broader religious or ethnic group. The Jewish people as a whole are not responsible for the actions of Israel’s government, just as most Americans do not bear responsibility for every policy coming from Washington. Accountability must be specific, evidence driven, and directed at those in power, not at entire communities.
The Intelligence Question: Mossad and American Sovereignty
No intelligence service, whether Israel’s Mossad, Britain’s MI6, America’s CIA, or others, should be beyond scrutiny. Their purpose is to advance national interests, and sometimes these objectives clash with those of the U.S. History offers instances where foreign intelligence operations worked inside America, subtly or aggressively. Friendships do not guarantee accountability. Dismissing every concern as antisemitic is dangerous. Refusing to question foreign influence abdicates America’s duty of self-sovereignty.
Politics, Labels, and the Marketplace of Ideas
Public discourse has become a battlefield of labels. Question LGBTQ activism and you are branded a homophobe. Challenge race-based policies and you are called a racist. Criticize Israeli policy and you are demonized as an antisemite. Labels can shield real victims, but they can also shield the powerful.
Figures like Nick Fuentes resonate with some because he asks uncomfortable questions about influence and power that many dodge. Whether one agrees with him or not, condemning him as “fringe” does not answer those questions. If his arguments are flawed, show how. That is how a free society operates. Smearing dissent does not build trust, it fractures it.
Beware Symbolic Laundering: Theology as Political Mask
We must guard against theological symbolism being repurposed for political causes. Recasting Jesus as a “Palestinian” is one such example. It erases His Jewish identity and rewrites history to serve a narrative. This is not a mere theological debate, it is historical revisionism cloaked in religious rhetoric. Truth suffers when the past is manipulated for present causes.
Where We Should Land: Principles for Civil Debate
1. Protect freedom of religion and conscience, while holding governments and leaders accountable.
2. Defend the right to question foreign lobbying, influence, and intelligence operations without apology.
3. Learn from Christ’s story: corruption in religious and political leadership can spawn injustice and tragedy.
4. Reject collective blame of peoples, but refuse to shield institutions that act corruptly.
5. Promote debate rooted in evidence and civility, not silenced by labels but elevated by honesty.
Ask the Question, But Don’t Burn the House Down

We live in an era where labels are fired like warning flares. The left labels, the right labels back. That reflex can protect the innocent or shield the guilty. Questioning foreign influence on American decisions is a valid, even patriotic act. Asking who holds power, and how, is fundamental to a free republic.
But moral guardrails must guide us. Criticism of policy cannot become an excuse for hatred toward a religion or ethnicity. God is not an antisemite. Likewise, no citizen should become a tribal scapegoat. We must hold institutions and officials, religious or political, accountable. Preserve worship and conscience. Speak plainly about influence, money, and foreign ties, armed with facts, not slurs, and with commitment to civic good.
Christ’s story warns us that corruption among leadership, religious or political, can lead to tragedy. That is why no institution should be exempt from scrutiny. The difference lies in how we ask: constructively, not destructively, seeking correction, not smearing.
Our republic thrives when debate is both vigorous and honest. When we insist on truth and charity, it becomes harder for bad actors, whether foreign or domestic, to hide behind slogans. Truth endures when wrapped in both ferocity and goodwill.
