Assessing Joe Biden’s Turbulent Year
Taking a glance back at the rollercoaster of 2023 under President Joe Biden, it’s clear that the year has been marked by significant challenges across various fronts.
The Economy: While there’s a slight improvement in the inflation rate, standing at 3.2% at the year-end from a peak of 9.1% in June 2022, it remains substantially higher than the Federal Reserve’s target and the rate left by the Trump administration. Since Biden assumed office in January 2021, inflation has surged by 17.1%, putting a substantial burden on American households. Families of four are now shelling out an extra $15,133 annually for the same goods and services.
The Border: Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported a staggering 2.4 million encounters with illegal aliens at the southern border in FY23, with 169 individuals apprehended from the FBI’s terrorist watchlist during the same period. Since Biden took office, over 8 million illegal aliens have entered the country, surpassing the populations of 38 out of 50 states. The porous border becomes a conduit for the trafficking of over 90% of the fentanyl responsible for the U.S. drug epidemic, a crisis that intensified under Biden’s watch.
Drug Epidemic: 2023 witnessed a grim milestone in the United States, with over 112,000 deaths from drug overdoses, fueled in part by the rampant use of Fentanyl. China, accounting for over 90% of Fentanyl in the U.S., exploits the vulnerabilities created by the open border.
Foreign Wars: Weak U.S. leadership is highlighted by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, draining American resources with $113 billion already funneled to Ukraine, and an additional $100 billion requested by Biden. The Israel-Hamas conflict pulls the U.S. back into the Middle East, risking confrontation with Iran and alarming some conservatives and liberals alike.
And that’s not even the full picture – the national debt, China relations, a youth mental health crisis, and the perceived weaponization of the Department of Justice against Americans add further concerns.
As we head into 2024, the stakes are high, and everything is on the line. The challenges of the past year underscore the importance of the upcoming year, where critical decisions will shape the nation’s future.
