BIDEN’S DEI RULES DRIVE SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURERS AWAY FROM U.S.

Major semiconductor players, Samsung and Intel, are slamming the brakes on their plans to establish manufacturing plants in the United States, all thanks to the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) rules dictated by the Joe Biden regime.

Semiconductor chips, the lifeblood of modern electronics encompassing phones, computers, and military technology, hold a pivotal role in national security. Currently concentrated in Asia, diversifying chip production is crucial for strategic reasons.

In pursuit of this diversification, the Biden regime dangled a $39 billion carrot in the form of grants, enticing chipmakers to set up shop in the U.S. The allure worked temporarily, with Samsung envisioning a factory in Texas, and Intel mapping out plans for one in Columbus, Ohio. However, these aspirations were swiftly abandoned.

Biden’s DEI Hurdles: The grants, sourced from the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act, come with strings attached. To access this financial windfall, chip manufacturers must comply with 19 sections of regulations geared towards fortifying diversity, equity, and inclusion. This includes mandates such as appointing a Chief Diversity Officer, prioritizing partnerships with “minority-serving institutions,” and boosting the participation of economically disadvantaged individuals in the semiconductor workforce.

Where Are They Going? Instead of investing in the U.S., semiconductor giants are redirecting their manufacturing plants to Israel, Poland, and South Korea.

A joint op-ed in The Hill penned by two industry experts succinctly encapsulates the sentiment: “In short, the world’s best chipmakers are tired of being pawns in the CHIPS Act’s political games.”
