Do Endorsements Decide Elections or Do Voters Still Have a Say?
I want to talk about endorsements.
Not because I am here to tell you who to vote for.
Not because I am here to bless one candidate or condemn another.
But because endorsements have quietly replaced something far more important.
Your judgment as a voter.
Everyone says they respect endorsements.
Everyone says they carry weight.
Everyone says they signal strength, loyalty, and momentum.
Until the endorsement becomes inconvenient.
Look at what is happening in North Carolina.
In a U.S. Senate race, a major endorsement is issued, and the noise starts immediately. Insider. Establishment. Party elite. Voters are encouraged to ignore the endorsement, dismiss the candidate, or assume something corrupt is happening without even engaging the resume.
Then look at a North Carolina state senate race.
In that race, endorsements suddenly become sacred. Questioning them is framed as disloyal. Independent thinking is discouraged. Voters are told to fall in line and stop asking questions.
Same concept.
Same political environment.
Different rules.
In that same state senate race, one candidate was encouraged not to run and offered a different path entirely. Local political pressure followed. Yet the candidate chose to keep running anyway.
Here is where the irony becomes impossible to ignore.
In one race, ignoring an endorsement is praised as independent thought.
In another, questioning an endorsement is attacked as betrayal.
That is not a principle.
That is convenience.
Endorsements are not qualifications.
They are not resumes.
They are not proof of competence.
They are signals. Nothing more.
Money raised is not competence.
Party backing is not competence.
Name recognition is not competence.
The Constitution did not design elections around donors, party leaders, or power brokers. It was built on the idea that informed citizens evaluate candidates for themselves.
Who can do the job
Who understands the role
Who has the experience
Who has shown judgment
Who will represent your district rather than manage optics
Respecting an endorsement does not mean outsourcing your thinking. Ignoring an endorsement does not make you rebellious. The real danger is being told when you are allowed to think and when you are expected to stay quiet.
If endorsements only matter when they help your preferred candidate, then you do not respect endorsements. You weaponize them.
If voters are told to blindly follow endorsements in one race but dismiss them in another, then the system stops being representative and starts being managed.
This is not an argument for or against any candidate.
This is not an argument for or against any endorsement.
This is an argument for voters remembering their role.
In a Constitutional Republic, endorsements are opinions.
The final decision belongs to the voter.
