Was Jonathan Joss Murdered for Simply Loving Another Man
Actor Jonathan Joss’ tragic death reminds us why Pride Month—and equal rights for all—still matter in America. This is more than a story about one man. It’s a test of our Constitutional Republic, our principles, and our willingness to stand up for the liberty we claim to cherish.

Let me tell you a quick story that says more about where we are as a nation than any soundbite on the evening news. Jonathan Joss, known for voicing John Redcorn in King of the Hill, was shot dead in front of his former home, by a neighbor who, according to Jonathan’s grieving husband, hurled homophobic slurs as he pulled the trigger. Tristan Kern de Gonzales said, “Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds… He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.”
Let that sink in for a moment. Because it’s not just about Jonathan Joss. It’s about who we are as a Constitutional Republic, a nation where the First Amendment and equal protection under the law are supposed to shield every single American from hate, persecution, and violence. It’s about whether we truly uphold those principles or whether we turn a blind eye when they’re tested.
Jonathan Joss was killed by a man who had threatened him and his husband for years. The suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, was arrested and charged with felony first-degree murder. According to Tristan, this was the culmination of years of harassment and homophobic intimidation. Law enforcement has yet to confirm the motive, but let’s be clear: Tristan says his husband “saved my life,” pushing him out of the way of the bullet. Jonathan’s death was not just an act of violence; it was an attack on the very idea that two men can live and love freely under the protection of our Constitutional Republic.
But this isn’t an isolated tragedy. It’s part of a wider, often overlooked fight for civil rights that still rages on. As we mark Pride Month, we’re reminded that in some corners of the world, the right to live openly as an LGBTQ+ person doesn’t even exist. In many Muslim-majority nations, homosexuality is punishable by death, no trial, no appeals, no “equal protection under the law.” In Hungary, Pride itself has been banned, the entire month scrubbed from public life. In Russia, so-called “anti-LGBT propaganda” laws have turned basic expressions of love into criminal acts. These aren’t distant headlines; they’re cautionary tales of what happens when we let hatred and fear replace the Constitution.
Here in America, some people complain that Pride has become over-sexualized. Even some conservative gay voices say that Pride no longer represents them. And yes, Pride has its excesses, just like any cultural movement. But let’s not forget: Pride was never about pushing for “special rights.” It’s about the same rights, guaranteed by our Founding Fathers, written into the First Amendment, and too often left on the cutting-room floor when we talk about equality.
It’s funny how people complain endlessly about the rainbow flags, about the mere presence of Pride, but say nothing about Black History Month. We’d never tolerate someone telling Black Americans to “quit complaining about slavery” or to stop talking about systemic racism. But somehow, when it comes to gay Americans, people think it’s fair game to treat us like third-class citizens. That’s not equality. That’s not liberty. And it’s certainly not what this Constitutional Republic was built to protect.

The court of public opinion is very hot on this issue right now and for now the facts are not set in stone.
A Legacy of Love and Resistance
Let’s also remember that this isn’t just an abstract debate. It’s about real people, like the 49 souls murdered at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando because of who they loved. Or Matthew Shepard, tied to a fence and left to die because he was gay. Every year, we see the same tired complaints online about Pride. About the flags. About how “no one wants to see it.” And every year, those complaints prove exactly why Pride still matters.
Because without Pride, the voices of the Jonathan Josses of the world would be silenced. Without Pride, the first brick at Stonewall would have been thrown in vain. Without Pride, we risk losing not just our community, but the very freedoms the Constitution guarantees to all Americans, regardless of who they love.
This is the point that so many miss, especially those who refuse to even read the article before they rush to judgment. Pride is not about shoving sexuality down anyone’s throat. It’s about standing up for the basic, fundamental right to exist without fear of violence or persecution. That’s what the First Amendment is for. That’s what equal protection under the law is for. And that’s what Go Right News stands for: defending these principles even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s unpopular, and even when it means confronting the bigotry in our own backyard.
#GoRight with Peter Boykin: Was Jonathan Joss Murdered for Simply Loving Another Man
Let’s take a moment to think about Jonathan Joss, an actor, a husband, a human being. Jonathan was killed by a neighbor, allegedly because that neighbor couldn’t stand the sight of two men loving each other. His husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said that Jonathan saved his life. This wasn’t just a random act of violence, it was a hate-fueled crime that challenges the very ideals we stand for in our Constitutional Republic.
Now, let me be clear: this isn’t just about Jonathan Joss. This is about every single American who has ever been targeted, harassed, or murdered because of who they are or who they love. And as we stand here in Pride Month, we have to remember what Pride is really about. It’s not about demanding “special rights.” It’s about demanding the same rights guaranteed to every American in the First Amendment and under the equal protections of the law.
Think about it, Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, where 49 people were gunned down simply for being themselves. Think about Matthew Shepard, a young man tied to a fence and left to die because he was gay. And think about what’s happening in countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia, where people are executed just for being LGBTQ. Or Hungary, where Pride has been outright banned, because the government doesn’t believe gay people should even be seen.
Here’s the irony: some people here in America want to claim that Pride Month is too much. That it’s over-sexualized, that it’s just a big party. Even some conservative gay voices will say, “Pride doesn’t represent me.” But let me tell you, Pride has always been a protest first. Pride was born in the fires of Stonewall, when a community stood up and said, “We’re not going to hide anymore.”
People complain about the rainbow flags, about the parades, about the month of June. But do we see people complain about Black History Month? No. Because that would be considered rude and racist. But when it comes to the gay community, we’re told to “quit complaining.” We’re treated like second- or third-class citizens. That’s not equality. That’s not liberty. And that’s not what our Constitutional Republic was built to protect.
It’s funny, people accuse us of wanting “special rights.” But all we want are the same rights. The same right to walk down the street without fear. The same right to marry the person we love. The same right to exist, openly and proudly, as Americans. This is what Pride is about. This is why Pride is still necessary.
Every year, there are walls of complaints online about the Pride flag, about Pride itself. But those complaints prove exactly why Pride is still needed. Because if you’re so bothered by someone else’s existence, if you’re so threatened by the idea that people different from you want the same rights, you’re not standing up for liberty. You’re standing in the way of it.
At Go Right News, we’re not here to coddle the Left or the Right. We’re here to defend the principles of our Constitutional Republic. That means standing up for freedom of speech, even if you don’t like what’s being said. That means defending the right to be who you are, even if you disagree with how someone lives. Because the First Amendment and the equal protection clause don’t care about your personal biases. They care about one thing: liberty and justice for all.
So, during Pride Month, let’s remember what Pride was meant to be, a fight for the same rights promised to every American by our Founding Fathers. Let’s remember that Jonathan Joss wasn’t just a victim, he was a testament to why this fight still matters. Let’s remember that the walls of complaints and the noise online are just proof that there’s still work to do.
We’re not here to push an agenda. We’re here to tell the truth. To stand up for what’s right. And to #TakeBackPride from the extremes, the haters, and the complacent. Because when one of us is targeted for loving who they love, it’s not just an attack on them, it’s an attack on everything this Republic is supposed to stand for.
That’s what we stand for at #GoRight with Peter Boykin. We’re not here for left-wing or right-wing narratives. We’re here for the Constitution. We’re here for the truth. And we’re here for you, no matter who you are or who you love
#GoRight Recap
Here’s the frustrating truth: most of the people quick to judge stories like this haven’t even read the articles. They’re too busy labeling everything they don’t like as “fake news” or “misinformation,” ironically echoing the bureaucrats and media manipulators they claim to oppose. At Go Right News, we’re not about partisan narratives. We’re about the truth, wherever it leads. We lean Right, but we’re not afraid to call out extremism or irony on both sides. We play devil’s advocate because the Constitution demands it, and because the stakes are too high to settle for echo chambers.
At Go Right News, we’re not here to coddle the Left or the Right. We’re here to #GoRight, to do what’s right. That means telling the truth, even when it offends. It means calling out injustice, whether it’s in San Antonio, in Hungary, or anywhere else. Because the Constitution isn’t partisan, it’s American. And it demands that we treat every citizen as equal, no matter their color, no matter their faith, and no matter who they love.

At Go Right News, we know most critics won’t even read past the headline. Quick to judge, quicker to dismiss—just like the very bureaucrats we expose. Sure, we expect that from the Left. But too often, even conservatives skip the facts, shouting “fake news” without a second thought.
