Dutch farmers in the Netherlands are holding massive nationwide protests against their government after it passed extreme climate policies which are making it impossible for them to survive and straining the country’s food supply.

Tens of thousands of Dutch citizens have taken to the streets in protest.

The farmers have blocked roads and poured manure on government buildings.

In response, Dutch police have shot at farmers, fired teargas into crowds, punched and kicked protestors, and made several arrests.

Details of the government’s policies: All in the name of climate change, the Dutch government wants to mandate that the country slash nitrous oxide and ammonia emissions [which come mostly from farming].

This would force farmers to cut livestock by 30% and reduce nitrate emissions by 70%.

These laws would put most smaller, family-run farms out of business.

The Dutch government responded to the concerns in a callous statement that said:

“The honest message is that not all farmers can continue their business.”

Big picture:

The Netherlands is the 2nd largest agricultural exporter in the world. [The U.S. is the largest] The global food supply is already severely strained by the impact of the war in Ukraine. Many third-world countries are already deep into food shortages and this is only going to exacerbate the issue.

“Hunger has great positive value to many people. Indeed, it is fundamental to the working of the world’s economy. Hungry people are the most productive people, especially where this is a need for manual labour.”
