ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER IN OHIO LEADS TO CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATION FREEDOM OF PRESS RIGHTS
A freight train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed in Ohio, resulting in a massive fire and dangerous toxins leaking into the ground. As a result, the government called for an evacuation so the chemicals could be burned off. Now residents fear death and disease.
On February 4, a 50-car Norfork Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, right near the border of Pennsylvania. Five of the derailed train cars were carrying millions of pounds of a chemical called vinyl chloride.
Vinyl chloride is a chemical used in the production of PVC pipes.
It’s incredibly flammable and hazardous to human health.
Exposure can cause a range of health issues, from respiratory illness and nausea to cancer and death.
When the train derailed, the five cars caught on fire, creating a risk of a “catastrophic explosion,” according to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.
Vinyl Chloride boils at 8 degrees Fahrenheit, so it was spewing boiling gas from the damaged train.
As a result, DeWine ordered a mandatory evacuation of the area so that Norfork Southern could conduct a “controlled release” of the chemicals on February 6.
A “controlled release” is a fancy way of saying they’re burning the train cars and the roughly 1 million pounds of vinyl chloride, releasing the fumes into the atmosphere.
When you burn vinyl chloride, it releases several hazardous compounds including hydrogen chloride.
Hydrogen chloride likes to latch onto water vapor, which then creates hydrochloric acid.
Hydrochloric acid is incredibly toxic and dangerous for humans to inhale.
The aftermath: By February 8 the evacuation orders had been lifted, but residents complained of persisting chemical smells, dead fish in their waterways, farmers claiming their chickens turned up dead, and fears that the drinking water had been contaminated.
A journalist was arrested while trying to provide coverage of the train derailment once the evacuation was lifted.
NewsNation correspondent Evan Lambert was live on air at Gov. DeWine’s press conference when law enforcement arrested him and told him to stop reporting.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene astutely tweeted: “East Palestine, Ohio is undergoing an ecological disaster bc authorities blew up the train derailment cars carrying hazardous chemicals and press are being arrested for trying to tell the story. Oh but UFO’s!”
Note.. whatever happened to our 1st Amendment of Freedom of the press without fear of government intervention? Sounds like corruption to us.
