MAN WITH KNIFE ATTACKS GOP CONGRESSMAN IN NEW YORK. ATTACKER IS RELEASED SAME DAY
Republican Congressman and New York state candidate for Governor Lee Zeldin was attacked by a man with a knife during a campaign stop. Zeldin was unharmed, but thanks to New York’s pro-criminal laws, his attacker is already back on the streets.

The details: Zeldin was campaigning at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Perinton, New York when the attacker, identified as 43-year-old David Jakubonis, climbed up onto the stage, began yelling, and grabbed Zeldin with the knife in his hand [pictured above].
Jakubonis was wrestled to the ground before he could harm Zeldin.
He was charged with felony attempted assault in the 2nd degree.
Free to go: Zeldin tweeted after the attack, and predicted that his attacker would be released:
“His words as he tried to stab me a few hours ago were “you’re done”, but several attendees, including @EspositoforNY , quickly jumped into action & tackled the guy. Law enforcement was on the scene within minutes. The attacker will likely be instantly released under NY’s laws.”
…and he was correct. Within hours of his arrest, Jakubonis was released on his own recognizance.
