Muslim Voters Threaten Election Boycott Over Biden’s Support for Israel
Muslim American voters are expressing their dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden’s stance on Israel by threatening to abstain from the 2024 presidential election. The demand centers on Biden pressuring Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas, the governing terrorist group in Gaza. Leading Muslim political figures in crucial swing states like Michigan and Pennsylvania have given Biden until 5pm ET today to insist on Israel withdrawing its forces from Gaza and engaging in negotiations with Hamas.
The National Muslim Democratic Council, representing Muslim voters and Democratic political leaders, issued a letter warning that they will withhold endorsement, support, or votes from any candidate endorsing the Israeli offensive against Palestinians. The letter directly addressed President Biden, criticizing his administration’s unwavering support for Israel after the brutal October 7th terror attack by Hamas. The letter stated:
“Your administration’s unconditional support, including funding and armaments, has played a significant role in perpetuating the violence that is causing civilian casualties and has eroded trust in voters who previously put their faith in you.”
Over a million Muslim Americans voted in the 2020 election, with a substantial presence in key states like Michigan and Minnesota. In Michigan, where the race was decided by a narrow 2.6 percent margin in 2020, a decline in support among Muslim voters could pose a significant challenge to Biden’s reelection campaign. Current polls in Michigan indicate a tight race between Biden and former President Donald Trump.
The October 7th attack by Hamas resulted in the deaths of 1,400 Israeli citizens and soldiers, along with 31 American citizens. The hostage situation further intensified the gravity of the situation, raising concerns and demands for a shift in U.S. policy toward Israel.
