While Katie Hobbs has declared victory in the Arizona governor’s race, the state’s Attorney General is refusing to certify the election results due to the botched handling of election day in Maricopa County [62% of the state’s population].

The details: Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s election integrity unit sent a letter to Maricopa County demanding answers for what it called “potential statutory violations” of the state’s election laws. [That disproportionately affected Republican voters.]

What are the violations?

According to the letter, the election integrity unit received “received hundreds of complaints” that “go beyond pure speculation, but include first-hand witness accounts that raise concerns regarding Maricopa’s lawful compliance with Arizona election law.”

The violations break down into three buckets:

At over 60% of voting locations, ballot tabulators were broken.

Improperly trained poll workers prevented voters from casting their ballots at a new location.

Ballots submitted on paper due to malfunctions were illegally mixed with tabulated votes and not transported properly.

Big picture: Only 17,000 votes separate Lake a Hobbs, which is why the Attorney General has held off on certifying the results. He understands that Election Day voters skew for Lake, so it’s possible that the voter suppression affected the results of the election.

Kari Lake said in a video posted to Twitter: “I am still in this fight with you. For two years, I’ve been sounding the alarm about our broken election system here in Arizona – and this past week has confirmed everything we’ve been saying.”

What happens next: The Attorney General has demanded a report from Maricopa County responding to the election violations by November 28th.

Note: I don’t want anyone getting their hopes up. There’s a slim-to-none chance the outcome is changed. But we will highlight it because everyone needs to understand how Election Day voters were robbed of their right to vote.
