Protesters Advocate for Ceasefire at Capitol Prompting Arrests
Demonstrators supporting the Palestinian cause entered the U.S. Capitol, urging Israel to halt its counteroffensive against Hamas. Members of the ‘Jewish Voice for Peace’ staged a sit-in at the Cannon House Office Building, advocating for a ceasefire with chants of “Ceasefire now!” and donning shirts reading “Jews Say Ceasefire Now!”
Representative Rashida Tlaib, associated with anti-Semitism, joined the protesters outside, repeating a discredited claim about an Israeli rocket hitting a hospital.
Note: I warned: “The fog of war is very thick with this incident. Be skeptical of everything you hear.”
That warning turned out to be correct. In the 24 hours since, we’ve learned:
A parking lot was hit, not a hospital.
A few dozen people were killed, not 500. [still tragic]
The rocket was misfired by a Palestinian group, not Israel.
Capitol Police arrested numerous individuals for trespassing during the incident, though no charges have been reported for more severe offenses like disrupting official proceedings or seditious conspiracy, as seen in the January 6 events.
In the broader context, there is a contrast in how incidents involving Capitol entry are characterized based on political affiliations, with Republicans on January 6 labeled as part of an insurrection, while Democrats’ actions are framed as an exercise of their First Amendment rights.
