New York’s Attorney General Letitia James has filed a civil lawsuit against former President Trump, the Trump Organization, and his children Ivanka, Don Jr., and Eric.

The details: James alleges that Trump overstated the value of his net worth and assets in order to get more favorable rates on loans and reduce his tax liability.

Back up: James ran for NY AG in 2018 [with funding from George Soros], promising to “get Trump.” And since getting elected, she has spent the last three years building this case against him.

Civil charges vs. Criminal charges: It’s important to note that this is a civil case, not a criminal case. Because after three years, James wasn’t able to build a criminal case to put Trump behind bars. Every Democrat’s wet dream.

What does she want, if she can’t put him in jail?

For starters, she’s seeking $250 million in “damages” to the state of New York. On top of that, she wants to ban Trump or his children from running a company registered in New York. And she wants to ban them from purchasing real estate for five years.

Former U.S. Attorney General Bill Baher weighed in on the lawsuit. And keep in mind, he’s no fan of Trump after their falling out at the end of 2020:

“This is not a criminal case. To me, that says that she doesn’t have the evidence to make a criminal case. So she’s setting a lower bar and bringing this civil case. I don’t think it’s going to go any further.”

“But the fact of the matter is that real estate valuation… is inherently very subjective. It depends what kinds of assumptions are used. Values can swing, depending on whether it’s viewed as a property that’s going to be split up or one that’s kept together and so forth. So it’s not an exact science.”

“And the banks were paid back. So, to have spent three years on this, seems to me, her trying to make good on a campaign promise that she was going to bring Trump down.”

It’s politics: Barr’s last bullet point above nails it. Letitia James is in a very tight re-election race against GOP challenger Michael Henry. As crime in New York spirals out of control, a recent Trafalgar poll shows Henry [44.2%] leading James [43%]. So it’s no coincidence that James is trying to shift attention, less than 50 days away from their election.

Trump responded to the charges on Truth Social, saying:

“Another Witch Hunt by a racist Attorney General, Letitia James, who failed in her run for Governor, getting almost zero support from the public, and now is doing poorly against Law & Order A.G. candidate, highly respected Michael Henry. I never thought this case would be brought – until I saw her really bad poll numbers. She is a fraud who campaigned on a “get Trump” platform, despite the fact that the city is one of the crime and murder disasters of the world under her watch!”
