The new CEO of X says Censorship is back
The new CEO of X [formerly Twitter] Linda Yaccarino said in an interview that the social media platform has new policies to censor and shadowban content.
1. Yaccarino was brought on by Elon Musk back in June 2023 to take over day-to-day operations and help attract advertisers to the platform. She was previously head of advertising at NBCUniversal.
2. Censorship: In her first TV interview since becoming CEO, Yaccarino explained that the company had introduced new policies to police what’s said on the platform. She said:
“If you’re going to post something that’s illegal or against the law, you’re gone. Zero tolerance.” That’s fair, in my opinion. Follow the law. But…
“If you are going to post something that is lawful but it’s awful, you get labeled, you get labeled, you get de-amplified, which means it cannot be shared. And it is certainly demonetized.” That’s shadowbanning.
3. Cage match: During the interview, Yaccarino confirmed that Elon Musk is training for the much-hyped cage match with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and said they see it as a “brand sponsorship opportunity.”
