Trump pleads not guilty
Former President Donald Trump was arraigned yesterday following a federal grand jury indictment over his involvement in the January 6 Capitol Building protests. Trump pled ‘not guilty’ in response to the charges.
Trump called the day “a sad day for America” and decried what he saw as the politically motivated persecution against him. On his Truth Social platform, he posted: “I am now going to Washington, D.C., to be arrested for having challenged a corrupt, rigged, & stolen election.”
Turning defense into offense: Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, highlighted how every new legal proceeding against Trump came the day after damaging news against the Bidens:
March 17: Hunter admits he owned the infamous ‘laptop from hell’. The next day Trump is indicted by New York DA Alvin Bragg.
June 7: FBI docs show the Biden’s took a $10 million bribe from Ukrainian. The next day Jack Smith indicted Trump in a classified docs case.
July 26: Hunter Biden’s plea deal gets rejected by a judge. The next day Jack Smith added more charges to the Trump docs case.
July 31: Hunter Biden’s business partner testifies to Congress that Joe spoke directly to his son’s shady business partners over a dozen times. The next day Jack Smith indicts Trump for J6.
Trump seemed in high spirits, despite the arraignment. He humorously posted on his social media platform: “I need one more indictment to ensure my election!” indicating his confidence and downplaying the gravity of the indictment. He later posted:
“CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT I HAD TO FLY TO A FILTHY, DIRTY, FALLING APART, & VERY UNSAFE WASHINGTON, D.C., TODAY, & THAT I WAS THEN ARRESTED BY MY POLITICAL OPPONENT, WHO IS LOSING BADLY TO ME IN THE POLLS, CROOKED JOE BIDEN, IT WAS A VERY GOOD DAY!”
What happens next? A subsequent hearing scheduled for August 28 will determine the trial date.
