WHICH STATES HANDLED COVID BEST & WORST?
A new study has graded states on how well they navigated the covid pandemic as well as their reactions to federal-level lockdowns & restrictions. You won’t be surprised to hear: the Democrat-controlled states did much worse than the Republican-run states.
The Committee To Unleash Prosperity commissioned the study, which looked at metrics like:
economy
education
mortality
The worst performers were: California, New York, New Jersey, and Chicago.
According to the report, these states “had high age-adjusted death rates; they had high unemployment and significant GDP losses, and they kept their schools shut down much longer than almost all other states.
The best performers were: Utah, Nebraska, Vermont, Montana, South Dakota, and Florida.
13 of the top 15 states in the study are governed by Republicans
Key finding from the report: “The study verifies other studies which have found that locking down businesses, stores, churches, schools, and restaurants had almost no impact on health outcomes across states. States with strict lockdowns had virtually no better performance in COVID death rates than states that remained mostly open for business.”
…of course, if you just watched CNN, you would think that Gavin Newsom and Andrew Cuomo handled the pandemic best for their states. [Newsom barely survived a recall election. And Cuomo was forced to resign.]
