The White House announced that Joe Biden plans to visit Saudi Arabia in July, in what is believed to be an attempt to bring down gasoline prices.
The U.S. national average for gas is over $5 per gallon
Crude is trading at $120 per barrel
Biden’s backtrack: During the 2020 campaign, Biden called Saudi Arabia a “pariah” and pledged to alienate the kingdom after the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Bad blood: Earlier this year, when Biden reached out to the Saudis as oil prices began to rapidly rise, they refused the request to speak to him. Mohammed Khalid Alyahya, a visiting fellow at the Hudson Institute said the relationship “has not reached a low worse than recently.”

Big picture: Saudi Arabia is the most influential country in the Middle East. Biden chose to alienate them in order to appease the far-left progressive wing of his party. And as a result, when we need them to play ball on oil, we’re in a weakened position. Now Biden has to go there, hat in hand, and beg for them to produce more oil.

The numbers: The U.S. uses roughly 20 million barrels of oil per day.
In 2020, we imported 522,000 barrels per day from Saudi Arabia
The U.S. produces roughly 16 million barrels of petroleum per day (11 million crude, 5 million LNG)
The U.S. exports 8.6 million barrels of that production per day
I remember a time when we had a President who rather than going to foreign countries to beg, unleashed American energy companies to make us a self-reliant, dominant energy producer.
