Biden’s Controversial $100 Million Aid Package to Gaza Sparks Outcry
Biden sending $100 million to Hamas… I mean, Gaza
In a move that has raised eyebrows and drawn criticism, Joe Biden has announced a $100 million allocation of U.S. taxpayer dollars to Gaza and the West Bank, a decision that has fueled concerns about the funds falling into the wrong hands.
During his visit to Israel, Biden stated, “Today I am also announcing $100 million in new U.S. funding for humanitarian assistance in both Gaza and the West Bank. This money will support more than one million displaced in the conflict affecting Palestinians, including emergency needs in Gaza.”
However, the aid package has drawn sharp criticism, especially in light of a recent United Nations report exposing Hamas for allegedly pilfering humanitarian supplies intended for the Palestinian people. The report, released just days before Biden’s announcement, detailed instances of Hamas diverting fuel and other relief supplies.
Biden did include a caveat, stating that the aid would cease if intercepted by Hamas. Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the decision, deeming it “totally inappropriate.”
Notably, Biden’s trip to Israel faced an embarrassing setback when planned visits to Jordan and meetings with King Abdullah II, Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi were canceled by the Arab nations while he was en route. The cancellation adds a layer of complexity to the Biden administration’s diplomatic efforts in the region.
As the controversial aid package unfolds, questions persist about the effectiveness of such assistance and the potential risks associated with sending funds to areas where terrorist organizations operate.
