BLM chapters endorses Hamas terrorism
Black Lives Matter (BLM) chapters in Los Angeles and Chicago face criticism for their social media endorsements of the recent acts of terrorism carried out by Hamas in Israel.
Context: Over the weekend, Hamas initiated an invasion of Israel, resulting in a tragic toll of over 1,000 lives, marked by brutal atrocities including the assault on women, the decapitation of infants, and the targeting of civilians.
BLM Chicago’s stance: On X (formerly Twitter), they shared an image depicting a person paragliding with a Palestinian flag, accompanied by the caption “I stand with Palestine.” This imagery alludes to the Hamas terrorists who utilized paragliders to infiltrate Israeli towns and engage in violence against civilians.
BLM LA’s perspective: Through their Instagram account, boasting over 300,000 followers, they conveyed a message emphasizing solidarity with the oppressed. They refrained from condemning the Hamas actions, characterizing Palestinian resistance as a desperate act of self-defense, drawing parallels between the struggles of Black and Palestinian communities.
Political alignment: Democratic representatives Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib released statements that refrained from condemning Hamas brutality, instead framing it as a response to Israeli oppression. Bush and Omar went further, calling for an end to U.S. aid to Israel.
In the broader context: Regardless of one’s political stance, whether aligned with radical BLM Marxism or sharing Palestinian heritage like Rashida Tlaib, there is a call for unequivocal condemnation of the Hamas brutality, acknowledging the severity of the actions independent of political affiliations.
