Child Trafficking in Ukraine
Ukrainian law enforcement apprehended a man posing as a charity worker who was attempting to traffick an 11-month-old child out of the country to be sold for illegal organ transplants.
Law enforcement officials suggest this is not an isolated incident – it’s part of a human trafficking ring where smugglers pose as charity workers, promise to take the children away from the war, and put them with foster families. But in reality, the children are killed and have their organs harvested.
Details of this particular incident: The suspect was detained by border guards after the child’s mother alerted authorities. She says she was to be paid $5,000 and was given an assurance that the boy would be adopted in the EU and live safely. In reality, the suspect planned to sell the 11-month-old for $25,000. to be harvested.
The suspect could face 15 years in prison.
The child was returned to its mother.
I’m not going to make any assumptions about the mother and the payments she received. But I’m aware it sounds sketchy.
This incident shines a harsh light on the grim reality that vulnerable refugees from Ukraine are falling prey to human traffickers. Charity workers on the Polish-Ukrainian border suggest traffickers are both solo operators and part of organized groups. These criminals lure in victims by promising safety, only to ensnare them in unimaginable horror.
Pure evil.
