Donald Trump Will Not Be Going To Trial in Georgia in 2023
Former U.S. President Donald Trump continues to navigate legal proceedings. In a recent development, a Georgia judge has decided that two out of the 19 individuals charged in an alleged election conspiracy case will go to trial in October.
This leaves the timeline for when Mr. Trump himself may appear in court uncertain.
Judge Scott McAfee, presiding in Fulton County, has approved trials for lawyers Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell, who sought an expedited process. Fani Willis, the prosecutor, had initially requested a joint trial for all 19 defendants in October, but logistical challenges led to this decision.
The judge’s ruling doesn’t specify a precise date for the remaining 17 defendants, including Trump, but it does extend the timeline, possibly until December but probably not in 2023.
Trump faces multiple legal challenges, which may continue into 2024. All defendants, including Trump, have maintained their innocence since surrendering to authorities in August. They are accused of involvement in a network alleged to have attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which saw Democrat Joe Biden emerge as the victor. (Well we all know that’s a lie)
