DRIVING OMNIBUS OFF THE CLIFF
House and Senate negotiators released their $1.7 trillion dollar, 4,155-page omnibus spending package, packed with woke and wasteful spending, as a deadline loomed to pass the bill and avoid a government shutdown.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said he was “pretty proud” of the bill.
Later that evening, the Senate voted 70-25 on a motion to begin debate on the bill.
$1,700,000,000,000… That’s a lot of zeroes to account for with just two days left to pass the bill.
Big picture: A key reason this bill is so offensive is the timeline. Republicans take control of the House in January. But if this bill passes, it would set funding through the fall of 2023 – effectively giving Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats continued control of spending almost a year after they’ve lost power.
Let’s take a look inside the 4,155-page bill:
It breaks down into $858 billion for defense spending and $772.5 billion for discretionary spending.
Here are some of the ways that money is spent:
💸 $45 billion in military and economic aid for Ukraine
💸 It prohibits the Border Patrol from using funding “to acquire, maintain, or extend border security technology and capabilities”
💸 $524.4 million to fund a Diversity Equity & Inclusion and “structural racism” division of the National Institutes of Health
💸 $7.5 million to study the “domestic radicalization phenomenon” [they’re talking about you]
💸 $11.33 billion for the FBI
💸 $2.63 billion for US Attorneys, with an emphasis on prosecuting J6 prisoners
💸 $286 for Title X funding, which funds Planned Parenthood
🚫 A ban on federal employees and contractors from using TikTok
🚫 Removes the Vice President’s ability to challenge electoral count votes and raises the threshold required for members of Congress to object to a state’s electors.
[This is a response to Trump’s 2020 challenge]
Earmarks: And then there are the special funding for members of Congress’s personal pet projects in their home districts, called ‘earmarks’.
There are thousands of these.
Here are a couple:
💸 $1.2 million for “services for DACA recipients” in San Diego
💸 $3.6 million for a Michelle Obama Trail in Georgia
To sum this up, Edward Snowden [for whatever you think of him], wrote on Twitter:
“The worst people in politics from both parties have teamed up to demand Congress rubber-stamp a 4,155-page blank check—many times the length of the Bible. A check for $1,700,000,000,000 of your money. And they want it stamped before anyone can actually read it. Sounds legit.”
How to stop this bill: TOO LATE!! It needed 10 Republican votes in the Senate to pass, and it did.
Republicans should have ALL opposed this bill and only support a short-term bill that funds the government until the GOP takes control of the House in January.
Below are the Republicans who voted to advance this bill in the Senate along with their D.C. office numbers.
I encourage you to contact them [politely] and tell them why they should have voted NO on this bill.
