Emergency Relief Is Not an Energy Policy

One Hundred Million Barrels Can Buy Time. They Cannot Build a Strategy.

The G7 agreed to release 100 million barrels of crude oil and diesel from emergency reserves as governments responded to severe fuel-market disruptions tied to the Iran conflict and global refining pressures.

Emergency reserves can calm a crisis.

They cannot manufacture permanent refining capacity.

America Needs Production, Not Permanent Emergency Measures

Emergency fuel releases can provide genuine relief if lower wholesale prices reach American families and businesses.

But emergency reserve releases are not an energy strategy.

Strategic reserves exist because emergencies happen. They are not an unlimited political checking account that government can tap whenever prices become uncomfortable.

America needs production.

We need refineries, pipelines, nuclear power, natural gas, oil, renewables where they make economic sense, and an electrical grid capable of powering the next generation of American industry.

We also need an achievable objective in Iran.

The purpose of strength should be peace and security, not permanent escalation.

Presidents also appoint judges. They do not own their votes afterward.

Judges swear an oath to the Constitution, not to the president who nominated them.

When the Reserve Runs Dry, What Comes Next?

Emergency barrels can buy time.

The real test is what Washington does with that time.

If America emerges from this crisis with more domestic refining, stronger pipelines, modern nuclear capacity and a more resilient grid, the emergency taught us something.

If we simply wait for the next shortage and open another reserve tank, we learned nothing.
