A Pause Is Not a Peace Plan
The Bombs May Pause. The Conflict Has Not Ended.
President Trump says the United States will not launch another attack on Iran before the November 3 midterm elections while negotiations continue. Washington and Tehran remain engaged over proposals involving the Strait of Hormuz, but the central disputes over Iran’s nuclear program and the broader conflict remain unresolved. Oil markets reacted to the reduced near-term risk of another strike, but a temporary military pause is not the same thing as a settlement.
Peace Through Strength Needs an Actual Destination

Trump’s decision not to attack Iran before the midterms lowers the immediate risk of another escalation.
That is important.
It is not the same thing as ending the war.
The measure of the policy should be whether American objectives can be clearly defined and achieved: protect American forces, keep international shipping open, prevent an Iranian nuclear weapon and avoid turning temporary military action into another indefinite commitment.
If negotiations can accomplish those objectives under verifiable conditions, diplomacy should be tested.
If Iran refuses meaningful concessions, Washington retains economic and military options.
Congress also has a constitutional responsibility whenever military operations become sustained rather than emergency actions.
Presidents command the armed forces.
Congress controls appropriations and possesses constitutional war powers.
Strong borders, secure elections, a capable military, affordable energy, due process and congressional oversight can all exist together.
America Needs an Exit Strategy, Not Just a Delay
A deadline on military action is not an exit strategy.
Americans deserve to know what victory means, what concessions Washington requires, what Iran must verify and what role Congress will play if hostilities continue.
Peace through strength works only when the strength is pointed toward a definable peace.
