FBI’s Nationwide Operation Rescues Victims of Sex Trafficking and Identifies Suspects
The FBI recently concluded a nationwide enforcement effort called “Operation Cross Country,” which led to the rescue of 200 victims of sex trafficking. The operation also resulted in the identification or arrest of 126 suspects involved in child sexual exploitation and human trafficking offenses. Among them, 68 individuals suspected of trafficking were either identified or apprehended.
During the two-week initiative, in collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, law enforcement agencies successfully located 59 minor victims of child sex trafficking and child sexual exploitation offenses. Additionally, the operation helped in finding 59 actively missing children.
The primary focus of Operation Cross Country was to locate victims of sex trafficking, investigate criminal enterprises, and arrest those involved in child sex and human trafficking. By collaborating with state and local partners, the FBI dismantled criminal networks and apprehended offenders.
To provide support for trafficking victims, the FBI employs a multidisciplinary team comprising victim specialists, child and adolescent forensic interviewers, special agents, and other victim service personnel. These experts offer tailored services based on the unique needs of each victim, serving as a crucial link between victims and investigators.
FBI Director Christopher Wray affirmed the bureau’s dedication to combatting human trafficking, emphasizing the resilience of their commitment to curbing this threat. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of the operation’s success in locating missing children and the broader efforts to prevent human trafficking.
Last year, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received numerous reports related to child sex trafficking and exploitation. The FBI’s recent operation contributes to the ongoing endeavors to rescue minor victims and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
In an unrelated context, the indie film “Sound of Freedom” has gained unexpected popularity, generating significant revenue at the box office. The film addresses the issue of sex trafficking and has raised awareness around this critical concern.
