GOP Senator Tillis Takes a Stand: Proposes Bill to Safeguard Election Integrity Amidst Colorado Controversy
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) is gearing up to introduce a groundbreaking bill aimed at preserving the integrity of elections and preventing the misuse of federal funds by states under the guise of the 14th Amendment. The move comes as left-wing activists in Colorado, and now North Carolina, seek to manipulate the political landscape, a move Tillis vehemently opposes.
In a issued press release, Sen. Tillis expressed his concern over the attempts by partisan state officials and activists to undermine the democratic process. “Regardless of whether you support or oppose former President Donald Trump, it is outrageous to see left-wing activists make a mockery of our political system by scheming with partisan state officials and pressuring judges to remove him from the ballot,” Tillis declared.
The proposed legislation, termed the Constitutional Election Integrity Act, seeks to amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The bill would insert language explicitly stating that the U.S. Supreme Court has the “sole jurisdiction to decide claims arising out of section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.” By doing so, Tillis aims to curb any attempts by states to misuse federal funds for election administration while upholding the constitutional rights of American voters.
Tillis emphasizes that the power to determine the eligibility of candidates for the presidency should rest with the people, not partisan activists. “American voters, not partisan activists, should decide who we elect as our President. The Constitutional Election Integrity Act would put any constitutional challenges in the sole place they belong: the U.S. Supreme Court,” Tillis asserted.
The timing of Tillis’s initiative is notable, aligning with the controversial decision by the Colorado Supreme Court to bar former President Trump from the state’s Republican primary ballot under section three of the 14th Amendment. The Colorado court defended its decision, stating it was made with careful consideration of the law and its duty to apply it without bias.
In response to the Colorado ruling, Tillis’s fellow GOP lawmakers voiced strong criticism. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) condemned the decision, emphasizing that every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, has the right to support their chosen candidate. Johnson expressed confidence in the U.S. Supreme Court’s ability to overturn what he deemed a “reckless decision” and reiterated his trust in the American people to decide the next president.
As the nation grapples with these developments, Tillis’s proposed legislation stands as a Republican effort to safeguard election integrity and protect the democratic principles upon which the United States was founded.
Editor’s Note: As a Candidate for NC Lt Governor, I will vehemently speak out against any attempt to strip away the voice of our citizens and infringe on a candidate’s right to be on the ballot. #AllVotesMatter Instead of allowing the electorate to make their choices, certain activists seem inclined to stifle the former President’s voice. I unequivocally denounce this malicious effort to meddle with our electoral process.
