Hydroxychloroquine Emerges as a Viable Covid Treatment in Recent Study
In a groundbreaking revelation, a study featured in New Microbes and New Infections has unveiled the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin in improving survival rates among coronavirus patients.
The study, comparing the 28-day mortality rates of 352 patients on this combination versus 3,533 patients receiving standard care, delivered a compelling outcome. The results showcased a “statistically significant reduction in crude mortality rate” for those treated with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.
Hydroxychloroquine, a medication with a longstanding history since the 1950s in treating malaria, later gained approval for autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
Recalling the timeline, in April 2020, the FDA granted emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid, only to revoke it months later.
In the grand scheme of things, the study sheds light on a contentious issue. Former President Donald Trump faced vehement criticism, primarily from the left, for openly supporting hydroxychloroquine. Trump’s belief that opposition to the drug was more about his personal backing than scientific consensus now seems to be validated by this recent study.
…and it turns out he was right.
