In a landmark decision, former President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony counts by a 12-person jury in his Manhattan “hush money” trial. This ruling marks the first time in our nation’s history that a former president has been convicted of a crime.
This trial has been fraught with controversy. Critics have pointed to several factors they believe undermined the fairness of the proceedings: a judge with alleged financial ties to the Democratic Party, a prosecutor funded by George Soros, and a jury pool perceived as overwhelmingly liberal. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the jury’s ability to convict without a unanimous agreement on the crime, which some argue deviates from the principles of our Constitutional Republic.
The jury reached its decision in just ten hours, finding Trump guilty on all counts of falsifying business records. This swift verdict has intensified debates about the integrity of the judicial process.
Following the verdict, Trump addressed the press outside the courthouse, stating, “This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge… The real verdict is going to November 5th by the people.” His comments underscore the belief held by many of his supporters that the trial was politically motivated.
The conviction has galvanized Trump’s base, resulting in a significant surge in donations. Both major donors, such as Miriam Adelson and Robert Bigelow, and small-dollar contributors have shown their support. This influx of contributions was so overwhelming that Trump’s donation website crashed. Additionally, Google reported a peak in searches for “donate to Trump.”
Support for Trump has poured in from across the right and center-right spectrum. Notable figures who have previously clashed with Trump have rallied behind him. Tucker Carlson, writing on X, commented, “Import the Third World, become the Third World. That’s what we just saw. This won’t stop Trump. He’ll win the election if he’s not killed first. But it does mark the end of the fairest justice system in the world. Anyone who defends this verdict is a danger to you and your family.” Similarly, Megyn Kelly expressed her outrage, stating, “Guilty on all counts. The country is disgraced. Alvin Bragg should be disbarred. They will rue the day they unleashed this lawfare to corrupt a presidential election.”

The Biden administration had reportedly planned a press conference following the verdict but opted for a subdued statement instead. This reaction suggests an awareness of the potential political backlash from the conviction.
Sentencing is scheduled to take place just days before the Republican National Convention. While it is unlikely that Trump will be jailed, he may face probation or house arrest, which could impact his campaign activities. Trump is expected to appeal the ruling, which might delay any sentence and extend the legal battle well into the election season.
The real challenge for Republicans now is to respond with equal force. The Democrats have shown a willingness to leverage the law for political ends, as evidenced by the two impeachments of Trump and the prosecution of Christian protesters. Yet, the GOP-controlled House has not taken similar actions against President Biden, nor have Republican state Attorneys General pursued far-left activists with the same vigor. This conviction of our presidential nominee demonstrates the need for Republicans to match the Democrats’ tactics to safeguard our Constitutional Republic and ensure the integrity of our democracy.
