MITCH BETRAYS GOP VOTERS WITH SUPPORT FOR OMNIBUS BILL
With the help of Mitch McConnell, Congress passed a nearly 2 trillion omnibus spending package that Democrats, this last act before they lose power on January 3.
Why should Republicans allow Democrats to allocate funding for 2023 when we are going to have control of the House in 2023?
Good question, right? Mitch McConnell doesn’t see it that way.
Back up: The Democrat-controlled Congress forced through a $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill to fund the government through 2023.
Congress had to pass some sort of funding bill in order to avoid a government shutdown.
The details: Here’s the thing… We don’t know the details of the bill. It was put together in a smoke-filled room behind closed doors and it’s going to ramp up spending while the country battles decade-high inflation.
Senator Rand Paul put this best:
“We have completely and totally abdicated the power of the purse. Republicans are emasculated, they have no power and they are unwilling to gain that power back.”
What could have been done?
Democrats still needed 10 Republican votes in the Senate to pass this bill that’s choc-full of Democrat pork spending.
A smart Republican Congress should have ensured that EVERY Republican in Congress should refuse to vote for any bill that funds the government for the full 2023 calendar.
There were other options they could have went with:
Vote for a short-term stop-gap spending bill that funds the government until January. This way we can negotiate from a point of strength when we control the House.
Let the government shut down through the Holidays like every other business out there, and then come back to the table on January 3 when the Republicans control the House.
Time for action: Call or e-mail your House Representative and Senator today and tell them why you were happy they voted no on the omnibus bill, especially contact the ones that did vote for it.
Below are the Republicans who voted to advance this bill in the Senate along with their D.C. office numbers.
I encourage you to contact them [politely] and tell them why they should have voted NO on this bill.
