He didn’t mince words when he expressed concern that illegal immigrants could potentially “harm New York City.”
The Context: The influx of approximately 10,000 migrants per month into NYC is straining its resources to the limit. Mayor Adams stressed that no neighborhood is immune to the consequences of this surge.

Revisiting Campaign Promises: It’s worth noting that during his 2021 mayoral campaign, Adams pledged to maintain New York City as a sanctuary city. Earlier this year, the Office of Immigrant Affairs, under his leadership, launched a “We Love Immigrant NYC” campaign.
The Bigger Picture: Some estimates suggest that since Joe Biden assumed office in 2021, over 8 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States. This figure surpasses the entire populations of 38 U.S. states.
