20 years it has been since the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

Across the United States of America, people are giving honor and tribute to the victims and their families of this American tragedy.

On September 11th, 2001, 343 FDNY firefighters selflessly gave their lives in the World Trade Centers that day.

To reflect, honor, and commemorate those lives lost, each year, thousands of first responders, across the country, participate in the 9/11 Stair Climbs.

The 9/11 Stair Climbs memorial is to complete the heroic fallen firefighters’ journey through dedication, physical fitness, and memory. Individuals will climb 110 flights (or 2,200 steps), which symbolizes the heroic as-cent that FDNY firefighters took on Sept. 11, 2001.

The most well-known 9/11 Stair Climb, is the official FDNY National Stair Climb in partnership with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. (nationalstairclimb.org)

The event has raised to date: $65,053.14 (goal: $75,000). You can donate to a climber, team, or team member – or – you can register as an individual climber, team captain, or team member ($50, age 13 & older). All participants will receive an event t-shirt to show their support for the memorial event.

9/11 Stair Climbs are also coordinated by local volunteers and fire departments throughout the United States. There are even live events in WA, PA, TX, NY, MO, DC. If you can’t attend an event in person, you can participate virtually. If you want to start one in your city, contact your local officials.

From wherever you are, one can participate and get involved by doing a stair climb of 110 flights (about 2 miles). You can run or walk 9.11 km (5.66 miles). You can bike ride 3.43 miles. Show your support for the memorial by climbing in places like a gym, on a stair-climbing machine, stadium bleacher, or at home.

Often gone unnoticed, the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way to never forget one of the most tragic days in American history.

To honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11 in the World Trade Centers.

To never forget all the lives lost and families affected on that dark day somber day, in American History.

May we never forget their journey and their heroic acts. —
