The Rainbow Is Not the Threat, Government Indoctrination Is

The rainbow is not what scares them.

What scares them is an America where they are no longer the only image on the brochure.

Screenshot

That is what images like this accidentally reveal. A smiling family under an American flag umbrella. A church in the background. Dad as the protector. Mom in the dress. Children perfectly posed. Everyone neatly in place. Above them, the rainbow is painted like a storm, something dangerous, something to shield the children from.

It is not just anti-Pride messaging. It is nostalgia dressed up as morality.

It sells the idea that America was better when everyone looked the same, worshipped the same, married the same, voted the same, and stayed quietly in the roles assigned to them. The problem is that America never really existed for everyone. It existed mostly in advertisements, television shows, and campaign mailers.

For many Americans, those so-called “good old days” came with limits.

Women did not always have easy access to credit, banking, property, or workplace equality without male approval or economic dependence. Married women were often expected to stay in unhappy, unsafe, or unequal situations because independence was harder to reach. LGBTQ Americans lived with the constant fear of being fired, disowned, mocked, criminalized, or erased. Black Americans, immigrants, religious minorities, divorced families, single parents, and anyone outside the perfect postcard image were often told to be quiet, assimilate, or disappear.

So when people say Pride is being “shoved in our faces,” we should ask a serious question.

What exactly is being shoved?

A rainbow flag? A parade? A month of remembrance? A gay couple living openly? A teenager seeing an adult survive long enough to be honest about who they are?

Most LGBTQ people are not trying to take away anyone’s church, family, marriage, Bible, or right to raise their children with faith. Most are asking to exist without government punishment, public humiliation, or private harassment. Pride, at its best, is not about replacing your values. It is about refusing to be erased by them.

That is why the double standard matters.

The same crowd that calls Pride “indoctrination” often cheers when government starts pushing one religious worldview into public classrooms. Texas has moved aggressively in that direction, with Ten Commandments displays, Bible-influenced curriculum fights, and required reading lists that include Bible passages for public school students.

Now, faith itself is not the problem. Christianity is not the enemy. The Bible is not the enemy. Parents teaching their children faith is not only protected, it is beautiful when done with love, humility, and free will.

The problem begins when government steps in and decides which sacred text gets official preference.

That is where conservatives should be the first ones standing up and saying no.

The First Amendment protects the free exercise of religion, but it also blocks government from establishing religion. Through the Fourteenth Amendment, those protections apply against state governments too. In plain English, government does not get to pick one faith and place its thumb on the scale inside a public classroom.

That is not anti-Christian. That is pro-Constitution.

A public school may teach about religion in history, literature, art, law, and culture. Students should understand Christianity’s influence on Western civilization, American history, civil rights rhetoric, music, architecture, and literature. They should also learn about Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, atheism, and other worldviews when relevant.

Teaching about religion is education.

Using government power to privilege one religion is establishment.

That distinction matters because today’s majority may not be tomorrow’s majority. If Christians in power can force Bible readings into classrooms because they believe they are saving the culture, then what happens when another group takes power and decides students should read the Quran, the Book of Mormon, the Bhagavad Gita, the Satanic Temple’s literature, or some other religious or philosophical text?

The answer cannot be, “That would be different because I agree with mine.”

That is exactly why the Constitution exists. It protects us from government favoritism, even when the favoritism benefits people we like.

This is also where the “shoving it in our faces” complaint exposes itself.

If a rainbow shirt, Pride event, or LGBTQ person on television is indoctrination, then what is a state-mandated religious display on a classroom wall? If a Pride flag in June is too much visibility, then what is government-backed religious instruction in a public school system that serves Christian children, Jewish children, Muslim children, atheist children, gay children, straight children, and children still figuring out who they are?

You cannot call one visibility and the other liberty just because one matches your worldview.

Real liberty does not work that way.

The conservative argument should be simple. Families should lead faith formation, not government bureaucrats. Churches should teach doctrine, not politicians. Parents should have the right to raise their children according to their beliefs, but no parent should be forced to watch the state promote someone else’s religion to their child under the authority of public education.

That is the slippery slope.

And it is not imaginary.

Once government claims the power to force religious messaging into classrooms, the only question left is who controls the message next. Today it may be the Bible. Tomorrow it may be something else. The same government power used to promote your faith can later be used against your faith.

That is why freedom of religion must also include freedom from government-imposed religion.

This does not mean children should be protected from ever encountering religious ideas. That would be absurd. Religion is part of human history and public life. It belongs in honest education. But honest education is not the same as state-sponsored belief.

That same principle applies to Pride.

Children can know gay people exist without being “turned gay.” Students can know Stonewall happened without being recruited into anything. A classroom can acknowledge different kinds of families without destroying traditional families. A public library can carry a book with an LGBTQ character without attacking Christianity.

Visibility is not indoctrination.

Existence is not propaganda.

And disagreement is not persecution.

The danger in these anti-Pride images is not only that they portray the rainbow as a threat. It is that they train people to see their neighbors as weather events to hide from, instead of fellow citizens to live beside.

America was never supposed to be one kind of family, one kind of church, one kind of marriage, one kind of race, one kind of political tribe, or one kind of person. The American experiment works because we have a Constitution strong enough to protect people who disagree with each other.

The church family under the umbrella has rights.

The gay couple walking past them has rights.

The atheist student in the classroom has rights.

The Christian teacher has rights.

The Muslim parent has rights.

The Jewish child has rights.

That is not weakness. That is America.

When Government Becomes the Indoctrinator

The Go Right with Peter Boykin Perspective

I am not against faith. I am not against the Bible. I am not against parents raising their children in church. I believe faith can shape character, community, mercy, discipline, and moral courage. I believe America is stronger when families are strong and when people live with purpose bigger than themselves.

But I also know the Constitution matters.

The First Amendment is not a decoration we hang on the wall when it agrees with us. It is a limit on government power. It protects the believer and the nonbeliever. It protects the Christian from the state, and it protects the gay citizen from the church becoming the state.

That is why this issue matters to Go Right News and Gays for Liberty.

We cannot complain that LGBTQ visibility is being “shoved in our faces” while cheering when politicians shove state-approved religion into public classrooms. We cannot demand freedom for ourselves while building government power that could be turned against us later. We cannot call ourselves constitutional conservatives if we only defend the Constitution when it protects our side.

Pride does not take away your Bible.

A rainbow does not close your church.

A gay family does not destroy your marriage.

But government favoritism toward one religion can damage the very religious liberty Christians claim to cherish.

If we want America to remain free, then we must defend liberty consistently. That means protecting faith without forcing it. Protecting families without pretending only one family model exists. Protecting children without teaching them to fear their neighbors. Protecting speech, belief, worship, and identity without asking government to pick winners.

The answer is not less faith.

The answer is less government control.

This is Go Right with Peter Boykin, the Constitutionalist for Liberty. And from where I stand, the rainbow is not the threat. The real threat is forgetting that freedom only works when it belongs to all of us.

A Go Right News and Gays For Liberty commentary on the double standard of calling LGBTQ Pride “indoctrination” while supporting government-backed religious mandates in public schools. This article argues that faith is valuable, but the First Amendment protects both freedom of religion and freedom from state-imposed religion. Real liberty means defending the Constitution consistently, whether the issue is Pride, public schools, Christianity, or the rights of every American to live free from government favoritism.
