Facts and opinions

Elon Musk was just awarded TIME’s ‘Person of the Year’. And while being interviewed by the magazine they asked him for his thoughts on vaccines and vaccine mandates. The first part of his answer, they probably expected. But I don’t think they were ready for the second part.

It begins with the question: “Are you vaccinated?” Here’s how he responded:

“Yes… I’m very pro-vaccination. The science is unequivocal. I’ve tweeted to that effect. But I am against forcing people to be vaccinated. I think this is just not something we should do in America… Or for example, force them to get vaccinated or get fired.”

🏛 The Supreme Court turned down emergency requests by New York healthcare workers for a religious exemption from state requirements to vaccinate against Covid-19. Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch all dissented, saying they would have allowed the exemptions. [WSJ]

🤡 Three days after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that she was imposing a statewide mask mandate for all businesses and venues, she acknowledged that the state will not force county leaders to comply. This comes after several Republican county executives said publicly that they will not enforce it. [National Review]

✅ With the midterm elections one year away, Republicans now hold a 10-point advantage over Democrats on the generic ballot, 44% to 34%. In the 10-year history of this poll, the largest lead Republicans have held was 4 points. [CNBC]
