A group of GOP lawmakers met with Democrats to discuss possible gun control legislation.
…and it was blessed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Back up: This effort comes in the wake of the latest tragic school shooting in Texas that left 19 children and 2 teachers dead.
Here’s what went down: McConnell told Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn to work with Democrats to “get an outcome that’s directly related to the problem.”
A bipartisan meeting took place right before McConnel’s direction to Cornyn. It included:
Dems: Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, Richard Blumenthal, Chris Murphy, Martin Heinrich
GOP: Susan Collins, Pat Toomey, Lindsey Graham, Bill Cassidy
What they’re considering: Increased background checks, red flag laws, and school safety.
Reminder: It would take 60 votes in the Senate to pass gun reform, so Democrats would need 10 Republicans to vote with them.
