Joe Biden is finally taking action to deal with the baby formula crisis that has parents struggling to feed their infants. Biden invoked the Defense Production Act (DPA) to “do everything possible to ensure that there is enough safe infant formula in the country and available for families that need it”

What is the Defense Production Act? It was created in 1950 in response to the Korean War and has been invoked over 50 times. It gives the executive branch power to direct private companies to prioritize orders from the federal government for national defense purposes.

Big picture: 3 in 4 babies in the U.S. are fed formula during the first six months of their lives. Meanwhile, supplies of formula have decreased by 40% since April.

Details of the action: Biden has directed the following steps be taken:

Suppliers must direct needed resources to infant formula manufacturers before any other customers.
The Defense Department can fly in baby formula from overseas.
Back up: According to Biden’s own HHS Secretary, this was an issue the regime saw coming “from last year.” So why did they wait until parents were in a panic to finally take action?

Why did this take so long? Because Biden leads from behind on every issue that he faces. For example…

Last November when covid testing facilities were overwhelmed, Biden was warned it would happen months in advance. Yet he did nothing until the crisis had arrived. Remember he touted that he would send at-home test kits to every American to alleviate the issue? As an experiment, I signed up for it and received it by mid-January, after the crisis was over.

What the experts say: Harry Wilson is the corporate recovery expert responsible for saving General Motors in 2009, and he says:

“Because of bureaucratic bungling, slowness, and not dealing with the implications of an oversupply economy, we now have this tragic shortage that’s really hurting families across the country.”
