Immigration imposes real costs on government.

Border security requires personnel, transportation, detention capacity, court resources, medical care, and administrative systems. States and cities also face increased pressure involving public schools, shelters, emergency services, policing, and infrastructure.

Those costs deserve an honest accounting.

Claims that Democrats have handed “trillions of dollars” directly to illegal migrants for the specific purpose of overthrowing the constitutional republic are something else entirely.

Bottomline, we do not need political rhetoric presented as a financial report.

Unauthorized Immigrants Are Barred from Most Federal Benefits

Federal law generally makes unauthorized immigrants ineligible for most major federal public-benefit programs.

The Congressional Research Service identifies non-emergency Medicaid, food stamps, Supplemental Security Income, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, most federal housing assistance, Pell Grants, and Affordable Care Act subsidies among the programs from which unauthorized immigrants are generally excluded. Exceptions exist for emergency medical treatment, disaster relief, immunizations, treatment for communicable diseases, public education, and certain narrowly defined services.

Public money is also spent on immigration enforcement, detention, border operations, courts, shelters, and services for American children living in mixed-status families.

Combining every one of those expenses and calling it money “funneled to illegal migrants” conceals what the government was actually purchasing.

The Federal and Local Numbers Tell Different Stories

The Congressional Budget Office analyzed the increased immigration that began in 2021. Its category included a mixture of people who had permission to remain temporarily and people who did not.

CBO projected that the surge would add approximately $1.2 trillion in federal revenue between 2024 and 2034, primarily from income and payroll taxes. It projected approximately $300 billion in additional mandatory spending and interest costs, producing an estimated net reduction of $900 billion in federal deficits over that period. That does not mean immigration is free.

CBO separately found that the surge placed a direct net cost of approximately $9.2 billion on state and local governments in 2023. States and municipalities received an estimated $10.1 billion in additional taxes while spending about $19.3 billion on services. The federal government may gain revenue while particular states, cities, schools, and hospitals absorb substantial local costs.

That imbalance deserves policy attention.

It still does not demonstrate that trillions were transferred to unauthorized immigrants as part of a plan to overthrow the country.

Intent Requires Evidence

A claim about spending can be examined through budgets, appropriations, audits, and program records.

A claim about a secret intention to overthrow the constitutional republic requires evidence of that intention.

Disagreeing with Democratic immigration policies is not proof that those policies were created to destroy America.

Critics can fairly argue that enforcement was too weak, parole authority was abused, local governments spent irresponsibly, or federal officials shifted costs onto states.

Those arguments are stronger when supported by records rather than conspiracy language.

Count the Dollars Without Inventing the Plot

The border crisis was expensive.

Communities should not be told that overcrowded schools, emergency shelters, law-enforcement demands, and medical expenses are imaginary. Taxpayers have every right to demand that the federal government identify those costs and stop forcing states to carry burdens created by Washington.

But conservatives weaken their case when every billion becomes a trillion and every bad policy becomes an intentional plot to overthrow the republic.

Publish the actual spending.

Separate enforcement costs from direct benefits.

Separate federal effects from state and local effects.

Account for the taxes migrants pay.

Identify fraud when it occurs.

End benefits that violate the law.

Secure the border and enforce lawful immigration limits.

That is a defensible constitutional position.

A government cannot be held accountable through numbers that were invented for applause.

Immigration imposes measurable costs on state and local governments, but federal research does not support claims that Democrats directly handed trillions to illegal migrants to overthrow the constitutional republic.
