That deserves recognition.

Getting Hamas to agree publicly to disarm is not a minor development. It shows that sustained pressure, regional cooperation, and direct presidential involvement can move negotiations that appear frozen.

But an agreement is only the beginning.

Hamas has signed and broken understandings before. Terrorist organizations do not become peaceful merely because their representatives accept language on paper. The weapons must be surrendered. The tunnels must be inspected. The money must be tracked. The command structure must be dismantled.

Israel must also understand that military success requires a political conclusion. Gaza cannot remain a permanent battlefield governed by militias, foreign aid networks, and temporary emergency authorities.

The United States should insist on clear benchmarks: verified weapons transfers, international inspections, the release of any remaining captives, an accountable civilian administration, and consequences for every violation.

Iran requires the same clarity.

American troops must be defended, and attacks against them must carry consequences. Yet the administration should tell Congress and the country what ends the campaign. Weakening Iran is not a measurable endpoint by itself. Preventing a nuclear weapon, securing shipping lanes, and stopping attacks on Americans are defined objectives.
