Border Security Is Funded,
Now Oversight Must Follow

Washington Finally Wrote the Check
Washington has spent years talking about border security. Now it has put billions of dollars behind it.
The Secure America Act is not just another campaign slogan. It is federal policy, signed into law, funded through 2029, and aimed directly at immigration enforcement.
The Secure America Act, S. 2, passed the U.S. House on June 9, 2026, by a narrow 214 to 212 vote. Every recorded Republican voted yes. Democrats and one independent voted no.
The law provides about $69.5 billion for immigration and border enforcement-related activity through September 30, 2029. According to the American Immigration Council, the funding includes $38.5 billion for ICE, $26 billion for Customs and Border Protection, and $5 billion in general Department of Homeland Security funds.
That is not a small adjustment. That is a major federal commitment.
For conservatives, this marks a serious shift. For years, border security has been debated, delayed, underfunded, and used as a political football. Now Washington has handed immigration enforcement agencies real money, real time, and real authority to act.
A nation has the right to secure its borders. A nation has the responsibility to know who is entering, who is staying, and whether its laws are being followed. Border enforcement is not cruelty. It is one of the basic duties of a functioning country.
But constitutional conservatives should also understand the danger of unchecked power. Billions of dollars going to enforcement agencies should come with reporting, oversight, due process, and transparency.
The same people who distrust federal agencies when they censor speech, target political opponents, spy without accountability, or abuse power should not suddenly become silent when those agencies are handed more money and more authority.
Border security should not become an excuse for government power without limits.
The border must be secured, but the Constitution must not be ignored in the process.
Guardrails, Not Blank Checks
The Go Right with Peter Boykin Perspective
The left spent years acting like immigration enforcement was cruelty. That was wrong. A country that cannot control its border eventually loses control of its future.
But the right must not make the opposite mistake. Conservatives cannot cheer unlimited federal power just because it is aimed at a problem we care about.
Secure the border. Enforce the law. Fund the mission. But demand oversight.
If ICE, CBP, and DHS are receiving billions in taxpayer money, then Congress has a duty to ask where the money goes, how it is used, and whether the rights of citizens and lawful residents are protected.
A constitutional republic needs borders.
It also needs limits on government.
Both can be true.

The Secure America Act provides major immigration enforcement funding through 2029, including billions for ICE, CBP, and DHS. Peter Boykin argues that border security is necessary, but constitutional oversight must come with it.
